SUPPORT THE GREEN ROAD TO HOLYROOD 2021

Donation protected

THIS CROWDFUNDER HAS NOW REOPENED FOR THE FINAL FEW DAYS OF THE HOLYROOD ELECTION CAMPAIGN.
So far I have completed the fundraising walk from Coldstream to the Borders-Midlothian regional boundary just north of Heriot, and look forward to continuing to the Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh on Sunday 2nd May now that the Scottish Government has lifted its travel restrictions.
I would like to express my personal thanks for all of the donations and encouragement I've received since I launched this crowdfunder several weeks ago - the response has been wonderful and it has helped us to run a meaningful election campaign in the Scottish Borders - thank you! We have a few outstanding campaign costs and if you are able and willing to help support us with these we would be very grateful.
Please find the original text of this crowdfunder appeal below:

My name is Tim Clancey. I moved to the Scottish Borders with my family in 2005. Over the last fifteen years I have seen among Borderers a growing concern for the environment and understanding of the climate emergency that is upon us.

Our elected governments have let us down though, with empty words spoken, meaningless targets set for decades into the future, tinkering around the edges of environmental protection while at the same time ushering in more fossil fuel extraction and more destruction of our green spaces for unsustainable development.

Every politician tells us that the environment is important. But for most of them, there is always some other issue that is more important to them and justifies leaving the climate emergency to another day. This is why we need more Scottish Green MSPs at Holyrood. They are the only political party that genuinely sees the climate emergency as the first priority for government. Our MSPs will speak up for the environment, and the more MSPs we have, the more the government will listen.

I am excited that this year we have Scottish Green candidates standing in the two Holyrood constituencies in the Borders for the first time. Barbra Harvie (Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire) and Dominic Ashmole (Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale) are both experienced and committed environmental campaigners who would be an asset to any parliament.

They need our help though – unlike other political parties, the Scottish Greens do not have the support of wealthy financial interests, and the campaigns to elect Barbra and Dominic will totally depend on local fundraising.

In a few weeks’ time I will be walking 100 kilometres through both constituencies, from the Scotland/England border at Coldstream to the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood, to raise support for Barbra and Dominic. (If the current lockdown restrictions are still in place by then, I will walk the same distance but in my home area.) If you would like to have a Scottish Green candidate to vote for in your constituency, please do help out if you can.

If we can raise £500, that will cover the cost of one candidate’s election deposit and enable them to stand. £1000 will cover the cost of both candidates’ election deposits. £1500 will cover production of campaign literature for delivery into every household in one constituency. The more we can raise, the more we can do to spread the Green message to voters in the Borders. And the more votes we win, the more likely it is that our elected governments will at last start to take the climate emergency seriously. Please give what you can – all donations, large or small, are gratefully received – thank you!

(Please note that we can only accept donations of more than £50 from individuals who are on the UK electoral register – if you are kind enough to donate more than £50 please email borders @ scottishgreens . org . uk , with your name and address so that this information can be checked against the electoral register. Your name, but not your address, will be made available to the commission on request after the election.)
