I started "The Great Walk About" on March 1st, 2019, in my home town of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, with a goal of completing more than 9,000 KM of foot and raising $10,000 for Diabetes research and to raise awareness about the impact of Diabetes on fellow Canadians. I chose Diabetes for my "cause" because it has affected more than 3 generations of my family.

On a personal note, my hike coast to coast, on The Great Trail, will fulfill a lifelong dream of seeing the country from the back roads and challenging myself with an extended solo journey. In addition to achieving my personal goals, my journey provides an opportunity to do something that will heighten awareness about Diabetes and raise funds for Diabetes research through the addition of a fundraising component to "The Great Walk About"!

Since March 1st, I have walked ~4500 KM thought snow, rain, sleet, bugs, mud and sweltering temperatures. I'm living outdoors along the trail, camping in a single man tent and carrying all the worldly possessions I need on my back. I will be arriving Friday, August 30th in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario after being on the road for 6 months. As I head west next week, I hope to pass through my current home in Edmonton, Alberta by the end of November and head over the Rockies to Victoria, British Columbia by the end of 2019.

This trip has been an incredible adventure for me! However, to achieve my fundraising goals, I need your help! I have self funded my gear, food and supplies for the bulk of the trip and I have also been very fortunate to have received sponsorship from Keene, KPMG Halifax, JK Irving and The Decal Dude & Sons and coverage from a broad media group including CTV, Global, The Chronical Herald and other community news channels including radio. For all the support I have received, I am deeply grateful!

I have been heavily relying on the magic of social media to reach as many folks as possible to help reach or exceed my fundraising target and expand my follow for "The Great Walk About" trek. I also want to send my sincere appreciation to the many individuals who have supported my various fundraising initiatives to date.

First, I would like to thank Diabetes Canada for their partnership support during the first leg of my journey across this great country. Thank you to everyone who made either donations directly to my  Diabetes Canada Fundraiser page or for those who may have made a contribution direct to Diabetes Canada. I have no way of knowing who you are, but you have my gratitude non the less. I encourage you to continue to follow the second half of my journey and donate any additional funds where you believe will best support my cause.

My commitment to raise funds and awareness for Diabetes research and to raise awareness has not changed! However, I am excited to say that as of September 1st, 2019, I will be partnering with JDRF and  re-directing my fundraising focus to Juvinile Type 1 diabetes and the impact it has on both the young and old.

JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of type 1 diabetes from people’s lives until we achieve a world without this disease. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, regulatory influence, and a working plan to better treat, prevent, and eventually cure type 1 diabetes. JDRF is the largest charitable supporter of type 1 diabetes research. For more information, please visit

Thank you JDRF for your offer to partner with my personal Great Walk About fundraising campaign over the remainder of my trek. To all my friends and followers, please consider making future donation through my JDRF campaign ( link below)

Additionally, I ask that you please promote The Great Walk About Facebook page, subscribe to my YouTube channel, Instagram and Twitter and encourage others to follow my travels and support JDRF. Every cent helps! Thank you in advance for your support, whether it be through a donation to JDRF, or following and engaging on my various social media channels. I am more encouraged than ever to keep on keeping on!
I am truly overwhelmed with all the incredible support and fantastic people I have met so far along the way.

In addition to my JDRF fundraising page (Link provided above) I have also established a GoFundMe ( page to make other donations options available as well. At the end of the journey GoFundMe proceeds, other than those used to support this journey, will be donated to Diabetes research.
Please help me reach my fundraising goals!
