Gladys Goodson was a dedicated team member in Walton County, Florida's HR division. She loved her job, and helping people was her true calling. Gladys was a natural leader, someone people gravitated toward for guidance and support. Every day brought new challenges, and she embraced them wholeheartedly. Her commitment to her colleagues never wavered, she wouldn't rest until every issue was resolved.

Unfortunately, the work environment in the HR division changed drastically under the leadership of the HR Director. His approach prioritized personal favoritism over skills and merit, creating a toxic culture that divided the team. The unethical and improper conduct fostered an environment where team members were pitted against each other, forcing those who valued fairness and professionalism into difficult positions.

After numerous complaints, the county launched an investigation into the HR division. However, the investigation seemed to be a mere formality, failing to bring meaningful change. Female team members who participated, believing they had a moral and legal duty to speak up, found themselves targeted by the HR Director and his inner circle. Despite the investigation confirming misconduct, the HR Director remained in his position with only a minor reprimand. He was recently “allowed” to resign, but his aftermath still lingers and will continue to do so until the right leader with the right cultural vision is found.

As a result, several female team members felt abandoned, unprotected, and forced to choose between their jobs and their well-being. With no other way to escape the daily harassment, intimidation, and retaliation, they made the painful decision to resign to protect their mental and physical health. Gladys Goodson was one of those team members. Resigning to preserve her well-being was heartbreaking, but the situation did not end there. Her husband, also a county team member, faced similar mistreatment due to Gladys’s involvement in the investigation.

This created a devastating financial hardship for the Goodson family. They have worked tirelessly to find new employment, taking on side jobs, but it has not been enough to cover their mortgage and living expenses. Just this week, they were forced to shut down both of their cell phones, limiting their ability to connect with potential employers.

The Goodsons do not deserve this struggle. They were loyal public servants who stood up for integrity, only to be met with hardship. Now, it is our turn to stand up for them. It takes a village, so let’s be their village and lift them up.

Gladys and her husband gave their all to serve others, and now they need us. Imagine the weight of having to choose between food and bills, or the heartbreak of watching everything you worked for slowly slip away - not because of failure, but because of injustice. Imagine the despair of knowing you did the right thing, yet still suffering the consequences. They never asked for this, but they need our help now more than ever.
