We are The Golden Knights, a band of gallant lads and one brave lass, hailing from Pacific Coast Academy in San Diego, California. Together, we seek glory, honor, and camaraderie in the noble realm of VEX IQ Competitive Robotics. And, of course, we aim to best our rivals—always in good spirit and with merry hearts!

The Golden Knights is a team of five middle and elementary school students: Harrison, Karissa, Johnny, Matthew, and Ezra. Though new to the world of competitive robotics, we have already claimed the Judge’s Award for our great communication, teamwork, and professionalism. We are excited to continue learning about robotics and competing this year, in 2025!
UPDATE 2/18/25: our team has since received a Design Award and Robotics Skills Award and has been invited to compete in the California state competition at the end of the month.
VEX Robotics is an educational program that inspires students from elementary school through university to explore the exciting world of robotics. Teams like ours participate in VEX IQ Robotics Competitions (VIQRC), which provide opportunities locally, regionally, and even globally.
Fun fact: in April 2018, the VEX Robotics Competition earned a Guinness World Record as the largest robotics competition in the world!
To compete, we must:
- Design, program, and build a fast-moving robot capable of passing balls, scoring goals, and flipping switches (this year’s game is called Rapid Relay).
- Maintain an engineering notebook that documents our robot design process.
- Interview with judges to articulate our design strategies.
- Meet 2-3 times per week to collaborate, evaluate, and practice.
- Travel to local, regional, and potentially state or national competitions.
- Collaborate with other teams at competitions to score points and achieve success.
