A Birthday Celebration Turned Tragic — Help the Funez & Gonzalez Families Heal
Just days after graduating high school, Jordie Funez traveled to Japan with his parents, his sister Jeraldina, and his best friend Angel Gonzalez to celebrate his 18th birthday. What began as a joyful family trip quickly turned into a nightmare.
On June 10, 2025, while returning to their hotel, the group was on a tour to Mount Fuji when their van—driven by their tour guide—was struck head-on by a tour bus. The impact was catastrophic.
All five passengers—Jordie, Angel, Jeraldina, and Mr. and Mrs. Funez—sustained severe injuries. They were rushed to three different hospitals across Japan. Three remain in critical condition, one is in a coma, and all are fighting for their lives—thousands of miles from home, separated from one another, unable to speak the language, and facing this unimaginable trauma without the comfort of familiarity.
Now, both families are facing the emotional, physical, and financial weight of this tragedy.

- ✈️ Emergency flights and lodging for Angel’s parents to be by his side during surgery
- Ongoing medical care, meals, transportation, translation services, and essential supplies for the Funez family in Japan
- Hospital bills and treatment costs, which are rapidly climbing due to the severity of injuries and extended care—estimated to exceed $100,000
- ️ Replacement flights home once the group is medically cleared to travel.
- ⚖️ Legal fees, as navigating Japan’s legal and medical systems requires local legal counsel—especially since the laws differ significantly from the U.S., and there is uncertainty around whether the group will even be permitted to leave the country without full payment of all medical expenses for all five individuals
