Support the Flores Family After My Husband Was Detained While Taking Me to a Pregnancy Appointment

On March 9, my husband, Elmer Flores, took the day off work to accompany me to an appointment at the WIC office on Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte. Elmer dropped me off at the entrance and drove away to look for parking. About ten minutes later, I received a call from him. Instead of hearing his voice, I heard officers telling him to get out of the car and to put the phone away. The call ended shortly after.

Elmer did not return. He was detained and taken into immigration custody.

My husband and I are originally from Honduras and live in North Carolina with our two daughters, Camila (5) and Yaritza (9). I am currently five months pregnant with a high-risk pregnancy, and we are expecting our third child. Because of my medical condition, I am unable to work, and Elmer has been the sole provider for our family.

Elmer works installing fiber optic internet and has no criminal record.

The appointment I was attending was with the WIC program (Women, Infants, and Children), which provides food and nutrition support for pregnant women and families with young children. Since Elmer’s detention, I have been trying to manage this situation while pregnant and caring for our two daughters.

We are raising funds to help cover immediate expenses while Elmer remains detained, including:

• Rent and household bills
• Food and basic needs for our children
• Transportation and medical costs related to my pregnancy
• Legal and immigration-related expenses

El 9 de marzo, mi esposo, Elmer Flores, tomó el día libre en el trabajo para acompañarme a una cita en la oficina de WIC en Beatties Ford Road en Charlotte.

Elmer me dejó en la entrada y se fue a buscar estacionamiento. Aproximadamente diez minutos después, recibí una llamada de él. Debido a mi condición médica, no puedo trabajar, y Elmer ha sido el único proveedor de nuestra familia.

Elmer trabaja instalando fibra óptica de internet y no tiene récord criminal.

La cita a la que yo asistía era con el programa WIC (Mujeres, Infantes y Niños), que brinda apoyo alimentario y nutricional a mujeres embarazadas y familias con niños pequeños.
