“The Ferryman's House
Parent-Child Visitation Center Mission Statement:
Bridging the Gap Between Parents and Children At The Ferryman's House, we believe that every child deserves the chance to know love, stability, and connection. Our center provides a safe, welcoming space where parents and children can spend
meaningful time together, rebuild trust, and strengthen their bond for now and the future.
Like the ferryman who helps travelers cross from one shore to another, we help families navigate difficult waters and find their way back to one another.
With compassion, respect, and hope, The Ferryman's House is here to bridge the gap-one visit, one moment, one family at a time.“

On September 10, 2024 I lost my best friend. Matt was one of the most loving people I had the privilege to spend a time in my life with and, unfortunately, like many of us, he had his struggles. Matt loved so hard, but dealt with constant struggles with mental health in Bipolar Disorder and subsequent addiction. Many of his coworkers, friends, and even family did not know the depth of his battles because he often stated he didn’t want to burden others but focus on helping them instead as that brought him joy. In Matt’s short life, he earned his JD in Law and went on to practice in Scottsboro, Alabama. Here he grew his practice in the hope of being able to better other people’s lives. He worked so hard for his clients, many of whom also struggled with mental health and addiction just like he did. He found it pertinent to get them the best outcome so they could better themselves and return to their loved ones. After his passing, many of his clients and peers spoke about his kindness and his persistence in helping them with their legal circumstances. So, in honor of Matt, his fellow bar associates in partnership with the Scottsboro Bar Association and Scottsboro Drug Court are working to create a safe space where challenged individuals and their loved ones can meet and spend time together safely, primarily those dealing with custody circumstances. A space with warmth, care, and plenty of books (Matt loved reading) to cultivate family growth and relationships through the processes of trying times. I ask that you donate so that we can build this space, The Ferryman’s House, to be the absolute most welcoming environment for these families in need of its warmth. Matt gave the best hugs and I simply want to continue spreading that love to others in his memory.
