Freedom Alliance is devastated to announce the passing of our beloved friend and co-worker, GySgt Josh Miles, USMC (Ret) who served as our Director of Programs and Charitable Initiatives. Josh died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on October 18th. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Josh served with Freedom Alliance for four years overseeing our Support our Troops and Scholarship programs, among many other duties. He led a talented and dedicated team who admired and respected him as a leader and advocate for those we serve. In his role, Josh planned and coordinated hundreds of events and activities each year, oversaw the administration of more than $2 million annually to scholarship students, and recruited and managed volunteers. But his greatest gift was the personal impact he had with his fellow veterans – as a mentor, confidant, and advisor.
Before joining Freedom Alliance, Josh served 16 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired as a Gunnery Sgt. He served with a F.A.S.T Platoon, deploying numerous times. He fought in Operation Phantom Fury (the Second Battle of Fallujah), and served as a Combat Instructor before being assigned to Marine Barracks Washington, D.C.
During his time in the National Capitol Region, Josh served as the Operations Chief and Marketing Chief for the Marine Corps Battle Color Detachment which includes the Marine Corps’ premier ceremonial unit, the Silent Drill Platoon.
Josh Miles was a blessing to Freedom Alliance, a hero to his country, a devoted husband and father, and a fighter for his friends. He lived up to, and surpassed, the standard of his beloved Marine Corps – Semper Fidelis. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
