Support the Family of Detective Timothy Long

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, the Trenton Police Department lost one of its most respected members. Detective Timothy Long—United States Marine Corps veteran, twenty-three-year Officer of the Trenton Police Department, and Second Vice President of PBA union Local #11—was killed in a single-vehicle crash.

Detective Long’s career touched nearly every division of the agency. Trenton Police Department Academy Class of '88 graduate Tim served in the Street Crimes Unit, on the Special Weapons and Tactics team, and in other tactical details; he later worked as a Detective in the Criminal Investigations Bureau before returning to uniform patrol with the Downtown Task Force. For more than a decade, he directed the department’s Honor Guard, routinely responding on short notice to ensure the national colors were displayed with precision and respect.

His commitment to professional excellence extended to the classroom as an adjunct instructor with the Mercer County Police Academy, where he prepared recruits for the realities of the job. Beyond the badge, Tim coached youth football, baseball, and softball, organized PBA charity events, volunteered at countless fundraisers, and true to his outgoing nature, could bring down the house at karaoke.

Most importantly, Tim was devoted to his family. He supported his son Jackson’s high school activities and was unfailingly proud of his daughter Evalyn, who is currently serving on active duty with the United States Air Force in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We extend our deepest sympathy to Jackson, Evalyn, and especially to Tim’s wife, Stella, as they confront this profound loss.

Detective Long commanded respect across every rank. His judgment was trusted, his steadiness relied upon, and his guidance sought out. He embraced the chance to model resilience and professionalism for younger officers to follow. Whether on tactical operations, investigative assignments, or routine patrol, he excelled and brought an optimism that elevated those around him.
