On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, tragically crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad en route to London Gatwick. The aircraft was carrying 242 individuals, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese nationals, and 1 Canadian. The crash resulted in the loss of 241 lives, with only one survivor.

Among the victims were:
• Vijay Rupani, former Chief Minister of Gujarat.
• Shubh (24) and Shagun Modi (22), siblings from Udaipur, India.
• Rachna and Rozar Christian, an Indian couple who had lived in Auckland, New Zealand.
• Ajay Kumar Ramesh, brother of the sole survivor.

Komi Vyas, her husband Prateek Joshi and their three children were also on board.

The family was set to finally live together in London, after years separated while Mr Joshi worked in the UK and Dr Vyas and their children remained in India.

The sole survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 42-year-old British citizen, managed to escape the wreckage with minor injuries. He was seated in 11A, next to an emergency exit.

In response to this tragedy, I have initiated this fundraiser to provide immediate support to the affected families. I am collaborating with Goonj India, a reputable NGO actively involved in relief efforts on the ground. All funds raised will be directed to Goonj India to assist in their ongoing support for the victims’ families.

As more information becomes available, including the identities of the victims, I will ensure that updates are provided regularly. Transparency is paramount; I will share details of fund allocation and impact reports as they are received from Goonj India.

This initiative is a gesture of solidarity from Australia, standing with India and all nations affected by this calamity. Your support can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have suffered unimaginable loss.
