Hey friends and family!
I'm raising money to run a marathon in Berlin on September 29th. I've been training hard over the past 6 months and am so excited for rubber to hit the road internationally at one of the 6 World Major Marathons in only a few weeks now!
My goal is to hit $800 USD to send me off to Berlin. I'd love your support along my training and running journey. Any amount you want to contribute helps!
What is the World Wildlife Foundation ("WWF"):
A charity protecting wildlife for a healthy planet. https://www.worldwildlife.org/species
Why am I raising money for this charity?
To get my entry to this World Major Marathon, I need to raise $800 for a charity, and am thrilled to be contributing to a meaningful cause like wildlife conservation.
My favorite animal protected by WWF: the elephant
African elephant populations have fallen from an estimated 12 million a century ago to some 400,000. In recent years, at least 20,000 elephants have been killed in Africa each year for their tusks. African forest elephants have been the worst hit. Their populations declined by 62% between 2002-2011 and they have lost 30% of their geographical range, with African savanna elephants declining by 30% between 2007-2014.
Elephants are also losing their habitats and ancient migratory routes due to expanding human settlements into their habitat, agricultural development, and the construction of infrastructure such as roads, canals, and fences that fragment their habitat. As a result, human-elephant conflict is rising as more and more elephants come into close contact with humans.
What is WWF doing to protect elephants? Your contribution can help.
- REDUCING CONFLICT BETWEEN PEOPLE AND ELEPHANTS
- STRENGTHENING ANTI-POACHING INITIATIVES
- STOPPING ILLEGAL IVORY TRADE
- PROTECTING ELEPHANT HABITATS
