The Egg is an upcoming short film by Elí E. Espinoza. This project has been made possible by numerous in-kind donations from trusted collaborators and vendors in Chicago, and with a little extra monetary support we can turn this vision into a reality!
ABOUT THE FILM
Using only shadow puppets and silhouettes, the film will tell the story of an adult mermaid, Mere, who is riddled with loss but attempting to find new meaning in her life. As her community prepares to leave everything behind in hopes of finding a safe home, Mere rescues a tiny orphaned egg from predatory fishing boats above her ocean habitat. Mere goes on a journey in search of her kin with a renewed sense of hope inspired by her growing love for her adopted companion.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Elí E. Espinoza is a writer and director from the South Side of Chicago who believes there is no greater beauty than filmmaking. Inspired by folktales passed down from generations before her, she hopes her stories find a way to connect multitudes of people by seeing past their reality and finding their emotion. She believes in finding the beauty in an individual’s personal fears, and that sometimes the easiest way to connect to a story is by reading a fantasy.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We've been so lucky to find collaborators and vendors willing to donate time and resources in support of this project. However, we are still seeking additional funding for the following needs:
- ART MATERIALS: Everything we need to create the shadow puppets that will be the stars of the show!
- CAMERA & LIGHTING EQUIPMENT: We'll be in need of a camera, lens kit, and simple lighting gear - all rented at a huge discount from a generous local rental house.
- TRANSPORTATION: A cargo van to transport our equipment and puppetry.
- INSURANCE: To protect our equipment and hard-working crew.
- MEALS & SNACKS: A well-fed crew is a happy crew :)
