Unidos Por El Sueño is a collaborative initiative between Dream Iowa & Latinos Unidos of Iowa to raise critical scholarship funding for immigrant and Latino students in Iowa.
This campaign is designed to harness the power of community by bringing together local businesses, media partners, and community members over a week-long fundraising effort centered on one shared goal: helping more students continue their education and pursue their dreams.
The campaign will consist of daily live broadcasts serving as in-person donation opportunities at different partner locations. Business owners, families, and community members will be invited to stop by, make donations, and symbolically “Adopt a Student” by contributing toward the educational journey of immigrant and Latino students who are working hard to overcome financial, legal, and systemic barriers.
The campaign will run for 5 days, with each day hosted or promoted in partnership with a local business or media partner, each with its own unique reach of community members. Each campaign stop will include live broadcasting, media promotion of partnering businesses, stories of impact, and opportunities for business owners or community members to drop off monetary donations or make on-the-air pledges.
Since 1989, Latinos Unidos of Iowa has supported Latino students in reaching their educational goals. Since 2000, Latinos Unidos has supported more than 400 students and awarded more than $408,000 in scholarships. Through its long-standing presence in the community, Latinos Unidos has touched countless lives, enabling Latino students to pursue higher education, impacting Iowa families for generations to come.
Since 2012, Dream Iowa has worked to support immigrant youth and families on their journeys towards generational wealth. Since 2020, Dream Iowa has awarded more than $55,000 in scholarships to 81 students representing 16 different countries. Their studies span 35+ fields, from Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering to Nursing and many others. These students have turned “el sueño” into something greater than themselves, not only earning degrees, but creating new opportunities for themselves, their families, and generations that follow.
Together, both organizations bring decades of experience, trust, and measurable impact to this campaign. Our goal is to raise $50,000 for scholarships for immigrant students.
Unidos Por El Sueño is much more than a fundraising campaign. It is a community-wide commitment to supporting future generations in their pursuit of education and opportunity. By joining forces, Dream Iowa and Latinos Unidos, and our partnered business organizations can expand our reach, strengthen our impact, and continue our legacies of investing in the next generation that will build a better future for us all.
