Hi, my name is Edel, and I’m creating this GoFundMe for my dad, Kevin Doherty. He’s a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and now he’s facing one of the hardest battles of his life…cancer.

A few months ago, my dad started medication to manage his diabetes, which led to rapid weight loss. Unfortunately, that weight loss came with unexpected complications. He ended up in the hospital with a blocked gallbladder, and during surgery, doctors found a growth near his pancreas. When I got the call that it was cancer, my heart dropped. So many thoughts ran through my mind, and the uncertainty was overwhelming. It took several days before we learned the stage of his cancer.

Thankfully, due to his weight loss, the doctors caught it early, and it’s at stage 2. While this news gives us hope, the journey has been long and difficult for my parents. He will need three months of chemotherapy, followed by surgery, and then another three months of chemo after that. During this time, my mom is the sole provider. She will also need to take time off work to support and care for him through his treatments.

Anyone who knows my dad knows that asking for help isn’t something he’s comfortable with. He was hesitant to have me share this. But I want to do everything I can to make this process a little easier for him.

I am so proud of my parents they are two of the kindest hard working people I know. Throughout this entire process, my dad has maintained a positive attitude and is fighting hard to beat this. He has always been there for me, and now it’s my turn to be there for him.
