Support the Dobsons after Hurricane Helene
Donation protected
As many of you are aware, Hurricane Helene tore through our area (Barnwell, SC) in the early morning hours of 9/27/24. That morning I received a phone call from my lifelong best friend at 5:45am. We couldn’t get a call to connect but were able to text. She informed me that a tree was in her kitchen and she and her family needed somewhere to go. They came to my house for a few hours until after daylight when they were able to go back to the house to actually assess the damage. When they were able to see in the daylight, they discovered that the tree fell across the back half of their house causing so much damage. They have tried to go back a couple of times to get essentials but the last time heard cracking all throughout the house and were told it was not safe to enter anymore. They have many areas where the tree broke through the roof and ceiling of their house, cracked sheetrock and exterior of the house, half of the carport is collapsed, etc.
They left that morning with the clothes on their backs and Lucas’ diaper bag. While they were able to get some stuff out, they have lost access to the majority of everything they own.
Because there was a power line taken down with the tree, the size of the tree and damage the tree caused, they are having difficulty getting the tree removed to be able to have a contractor come in and assess whether it is okay to access. They have been in contact with their insurance company, but the insurance company is running on limited resources due to no power in their area as well.
If you personally know Emily or Luke, you know that they are two people who would literally give you the shirt off of their backs and they hate to ask for help, so I am asking for them. As some of you know, Emily and Luke have a 4-year old, Lucas, who is autistic. Lucas had many sensory toys and assistive devices that they no longer are able to access. Additionally, being outside of his normal environment and routine has been hard. They are working through settling and making new routines all while trying to deal with this devastating blow. The most important thing is that Emily, Luke and Lucas are all safe and are able to stay with family and friends until this is all sorted out with insurance.
I created this gofundme to help with costs associated with buying new essentials, paying for tree removal, paying for deductibles or any other house related fees, etc. All donations are going directly to Emily and Luke.
We know that our area, surrounding areas and beyond were hit hard and so many places are devastated but every little bit helps. Please donate if you are able and if you aren’t able, please pray for all of them and this situation.
