Support the Diner Staff!

As you are likely aware, the 18th & U Duplex Diner was closed abruptly on June 11, 2024, during Pride month in DC.

While 2004 18th St NW will reopen as a refreshed concept under the ownership of longtime Duplex GM Kelly Laczko YAY!! The sudden closure has left many longtime staff, front and back of house, in a hard spot.

We, former staff, are launching a GoFundMe to help employees caught by the unscheduled closure hang on until the joint reopens. We know we might not cover all lost wages, but we can try! The grand total will be announced at a staff and customer appreciation party this fall.

***A bit about logistics - For those that don't know me, my name is Jesse Tyler and I worked at Duplex Diner from 1999 to 2019. I am working with Kelly Laczko, the long-time General Manager, on the direct distribution of all raised funds to cover lost wages for the current staff. The loss of at least 6 weeks of pay has hit them hard. We want all staff to be able return to work when the new concept is ready to re-open.
