Anyone who knows Bree knows she is always the person helping others and not asking for any help. Brian has a long road ahead of him and the Dew family needs to focus on his health, not worry about the financial burden that a health event like this will cause. Brian is relatively new to the job he has and is not eligible for FMLA. Please donate and show this wonderful family how much their community loves them.
Bree’s first update below:
Last Thursday (4/14/), Brian came down with a stomach ache. By 1am he was in the ER, by 4am he was transferred to a trauma center and by 11am he was in surgery. The surgery was as successful as it could be and while it was a major surgery, we felt pretty lucky.
Unfortunately on Tuesday his original surgery failed. I got a call at soccer practice to return to the hospital as quickly as I could. I was so confused as 2 hours earlier he was doing really well. By the time I got back here he was septic and in critical condition. The doctor patted my shoulder, said he would do his best to save his life and I was left standing in an empty hallway. A 5 hour surgery followed and he has been in the ICU ever since.
It has been touch and go; one step forward, two steps back. Hands down the most terrifying, out of body experience I have ever had.
If you are prayerful person, please add Brian. Please pray for his kidneys to start working as they should, for healthy lungs and for pain management. Please pray for Mills and SJ, who don’t know the seriousness of this situation but just know they haven’t seen their Daddy in 10 days.
For those of you who have already been on this journey with us, thank you.
My mom Irene Munger has been running my entire life- house, kids and dogs. I love you, Mom and know how exhausted you are too.
My sister Nikki Munger Zemanand I exchange no less than 100 texts/calls per day. I cried on the phone with her until 2am on Tuesday while I tried to figure out what in the world was going on. She took the kids for a fun pizza night and sleepover which they were so happy out. Nik helped them make darling signs for Brian and I cant wait until he is awake enough to read them. I know they made me immediately start to cry when she delivered them today.
Thank you to Lisa Melchior-Ingram and Otis Ingram, they swept in and told me they had the kids last weekend and Miller tonight- knowing they are safe, loved and having a good time was such a relief. Thank you Bernadette BG for having a fun overnight planned too. Thank you Katie Wolfe for all the rides to swim team. Thank you Mary Santana for loving my kids so much.
Thanks for Chelsea Guetz Hixson for showing up before the first surgery with my beloved Diet Coke, snacks and the hug I needed. Thank you Lindsay Polumbus Condon and Susan Rafferty for sitting with me during surgery.
Thanks Julie Tulloy for not listening when I said no and sending Costco yummies and organizing a dinner. Thanks Lisa Hutchens Scruggs for the blanket to keep me warm at the hospital. Thanks to the Kirk Family for a hospital goodie bag of snack . Thanks Amanda Hochstein Zulkosky for being there only person other than my mom who is not afraid of our dogs and for letting them out :) Thanks Lisa Cecchini for sending adult beverages.
Thanks to my Hartford Family- you know who you are and your texts and generosity make me cry.
Thanks to Brian's family for their support and concern who I know feel helpless so far away.
Thanks to everyone who has been praying for us this week. Your work isn’t done yet so please keep Brian’s health on your heart. I don’t want to do life without this guy and we need him home.
