Hello! My name’s Sylvie, I’m a dance-theatre maker in Leeds in the process of getting my new project ‘Yield’ off the ground & into early development.

A bit about me:

I’m originally from South East London but have been a creative based in Leeds for over 7 years now. I’m super passionate about creating dance theatre work that celebrates the UK’s regional heritage & folk histories, and how these live on within our current communities. I love working with non-trained dancers & community members, and believe in making space for real and unfiltered stories and physicalities within the contemporary dance world.

About the project:

‘Yield’ is currently in its research and development phase, investigating how local heritage music can inform a community’s shared movement language and relationship to land. This specific project draws inspiration from Yorkshire (and the wider north’s) colliery band culture/ heritage which is why there’s a strong emphasis on musical collaboration and exploration throughout. The long term development will culminate in a 40+ minute dance work that will be adapted for both theatres and installation-based settings, involving live music and dance.

Why I need your help:

As the project is in its research & development phase, I’m currently applying for an under 30k Arts Council England Lottery bid to support this stage. As part of this application I need to raise as much confirmed ‘income’ as possible to have a strong chance at being successful. However, with seed funding sparse and a lack of personal finances to contribute, I am reaching out for wider community support to help kickstart this project. The funds I'm aiming for are upwards of £1,000 so any donations are incredibly welcome and highly appreciated.

For the sake of clarity, if I’m unsuccessful in the funding application, any fundraising will be rolled into a re-submission and would remain as part of the project’s match funding.
