We are reaching out on behalf of our friend Jackie and her two sons, Dayton and Luca, who are now facing an unimaginable loss and overwhelming financial hardship following the passing of Patrick on November 17.
Patrick was a loving husband, devoted father, a cherished brother and son, and a loyal friend to so many. A man who fought courageously through nearly two years of severe health challenges.
Patrick’s health journey began in December 2023 when he developed a serious infection. By September 2024, he was diagnosed with kidney failure, and from that point forward, life became a constant cycle of hospital admissions, treatments, and complications.
Between September 2024 and November 2025, Patrick was in and out of the hospital battling relentless infections, the impact of organ failure, and ultimately the amputation of his leg. Through every setback, he continued to fight with unbelievable strength and hope for his family.
Throughout this long and painful battle, the financial strain on the family grew immensely. Medication costs, hospital parking fees, and the specialized equipment needed after his amputation added up quickly.
Jackie did everything she could to manage on her own while caring for Patrick, but the burden has now become more than she can carry.
With Patrick gone, Jackie is left to support the boys on a single income, without the CPP disability support they had been relying on.
Their most urgent needs include mortgage payments, utilities, groceries, school fees, and basic living expenses as they navigate life without Patrick.
While the government will reimburse some cremation costs, Jackie had to borrow money upfront to cover them.
She is also waiting on official documentation to learn whether Patrick’s life insurance will assist with the mortgage — answers that will not come until sometime in January.
Jackie’s employer has been incredibly understanding, allowing her the flexibility to work as much as she could from home or the hospital. However, even with full-time employment, the financial impact of the past two years — combined with this sudden and heartbreaking loss — has left the family in a very difficult place.
One of the biggest hopes right now is to help provide some normalcy for the boys. Luca, especially, would love to continue playing baseball — something that brings him joy and stability — but at this time, the family is unsure how they will manage those costs without support.
Anyone who knows this family knows how deeply they care for others. Throughout his too-short life, Patrick touched countless people through volunteer work with his kind, selfless nature.
Jackie and Patrick have always been the first to show up when someone needed help, right up until Patrick’s health declined to the point where every day became focused on getting him to appointments and managing his care.
Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.
Any donation, no matter how small, will directly support Jackie, Dayton, and Luca through the incredibly difficult months ahead — helping to cover essential bills, school needs, memorial expenses, and giving the boys a sense of stability during this heartbreaking time.
The family is profoundly grateful for every message, prayer, and contribution.
Jackie has shared that she truly doesn’t know how she will manage the next few months while waiting for paperwork and financial support to be processed — but the kindness of others gives her strength and hope.
