Mrs. Dale Johnson's life was defined by her love of children and her passion for education. As the owner of her own daycare and child development centers in the DMV, she nurtured countless young minds — teaching not only academics, but life lessons that propelled many of her students into their own success stories. She was an avid supporter of youth, constantly encouraging students to reach higher and further. Generations were inspired by her guidance, and her legacy continues to shine through the lives she touched.
To honor this remarkable woman, her daughter, Reverend Dr. Deborah Scarborough, founded the Dale Johnson Early Childhood Education Scholarship Fund. It was her vision: to carry her mother's legacy forward by investing in the people who will stand in front of the next generation of children. Our team is now standing that vision up.
The fund will support future early childhood educators across the DC–Maryland–Virginia (DMV) area — helping with tuition, certification costs, and books and materials, along with mentorship as they work toward their credentials.
Where we are, and what happens next:
• Our current goal: $5,000 by January 2027 to formally establish the fund — its legal formation, so the scholarship stands on a firm foundation.
• June 1 – July 15, 2027: the first scholarship application window opens.
• August 2027: our inaugural gala, where the first scholarship — $2,500 to $5,000 — will be awarded.
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us open doors for future educators and ensures that Mrs. Johnson's spirit of teaching and inspiration lives on.
Join us in building this foundation of hope, education, and legacy. Together, we can honor Mrs. Dale Johnson's extraordinary life and empower future generations to reach higher and further.
Thank you for your generosity and belief in this mission.
