I am Taylor, the daughter of Dan and Marcia cripe. In April 2023 (16 months ago) my family experienced a house fire likely due to a hair straightener being left on. Thankfully, the fire was not a complete loss. Our parents taught us to keep bedroom doors closed at all times and we are told this is what prevented the house from burning entirely.
The house is not livable and 80-90% of the contents are ruined due to smoke or fire damage. The insurance company has not approved or denied their claim yet even after 15 months.
In just a couple weeks my parents will have exhausted the insurance policy’s additional living expenses which was covering rent, utilities and furnishings for the home. Once this occurs they will be forced to pay their mortgage, rent on a second property, utilities at both locations and a furnishings rental fee (approximately $2,000 per month), or they can choose to furnish an entire house including appliances, blankets, pillows, furniture, forks, plates and knives along with all other items required for a family of 6, including their 18 month old grandson, to live and function.
My parents have asked for no help through this struggle but the stress of the situation has increased and it’s heart breaking to see the constant strain and struggle, which continues to increase. As nurses, both of my parents have spent their entire adult lives taking care of other people and I don’t have the resources to take care of them. I am humbly asking for any help you could give my family.
At this time there is no indication from my parents’ attorney that there will be any timely answer regarding the status of the claim, including if or when they will pay the claim. Our understanding from their attorney is that by law the insurance company can choose to delay this claim as long as they would like.
