It has long been a dream of ours to create bold new musical theatre by Canadians, for Canadians.

In a time when many major arts institutions are forced to play it safe, risk-taking and original storytelling can be the first things lost. But new work is how our culture grows. It is how the next great Canadian story begins.

That is why we are creating The House of Special Purpose.

This new original musical reimagines the story of the Romanov family through a fresh, contemporary lens. Blending history, spectacle, and emotional truth, it is an ambitious new Canadian work being developed by an exciting team of artists from across theatre, opera, television, and digital media.

An entire generation of emerging and mid-career artists have extraordinary stories to tell, yet too often lack the resources and opportunities to bring them to life. We believe artists deserve the chance to create daring work, and to be paid fairly while doing it.

That commitment is reflected in our budget: 75% of all funds raised will go directly toward paying artists a living wage. Writers, performers, musicians, designers, and creatives are the heart of this production, and we believe the people making the work should be properly compensated while they create it.

Your support will help us develop, and produce The House of Special Purpose, while directly supporting the Canadian artists making it possible.

This is more than funding one production. It is investing in the future of original Canadian theatre and helping launch a new work with the potential to grow far beyond its first iteration.
