Support the Continuation of ShaoLin Center's Legacy

I have heard many people say through the years, “ShaoLin Center saved my life.” Everyone has a story: From healing after a troubled childhood, to feeling like an outcast or too “different” than everyone else, or learning how to cope with challenges, frustrations, letdowns… the stories vary, but the common thread is that from their first moments in the school, every student has been welcome and accepted. All of us found more than a place to train – it became a sanctuary, a community, a home.

For over 40 years, SiGung Kleppe preserved and taught Chinese martial arts and practices as a way for students to learn how to live a longer, healthier, happier life. The time came for him to embrace that mission for himself, and as retirement drew closer the question of how to continue the school became a very real consideration. All those voices that shared the importance of ShaoLin Center were what I heard loudest, and it became my mission to continue the legacy SiGung started. Yes, we still teach people traditional Chinese martial arts and lion dancing, but more than that, ShaoLin Center remains a safe space for individuals to learn, grow, and be their most authentic selves.

We have had a number of individuals ask how they can contribute as a way to honor a loved one who trains with us, or support us now even though they are no longer a current member. Establishing this GoFundMe account will allow anyone to donate toward the continuation of the school. The money that is raised will help offset a number of costs – rent, utilities, equipment – but more critically, donations can also provide an opportunity for students who are experiencing financial difficulties begin or maintain their training at ShaoLin Center.

It takes a village – to create a refuge, to nurture the human spirit, to preserve tradition. Thank you for believing in ShaoLin Center and being a member of our village.
