For those that know this family, you may be aware of the recent medical emergencies that Nora has had to endure within the last couple months. On 05/18/22, Nora went to the ER after not feeling well and becoming unresponsive. Shortly upon arrival, Nora was intubated due to extremely low blood pressure; she was ultimately sedated for 4 days in ICU. During that time, there were moments where doctors did not know if she would pull through. Thankfully, she eventually woke up but spent two weeks in the hospital. During her time at the hospital, she was diagnosed with sepsis and DIC, as well as a clot in her liver. She was able to semi recover and was sent to a rehab facility (as an inpatient) for a week. After being released back home, she spent three weeks doing therapy and working with medical staff through home health visits. Unfortunately, her progress was cut short due to another medical emergency.
On 07/06/22, Nora started exhibiting similar symptoms as those from her previous hospitalization. Upon arrival to the hospital, Nora again had to be intubated and was sedated for a day. She was eventually placed on dialysis due to early signs of kidney damage while in ICU. After one week in the hospital, she was released back home. Unfortunately, during this visit, she was not given a definite reason for her continued decline in health. Due to concerns of suspected mold contamination in her home contributing to her illness, she resided in a hotel for a week. During her first two hospital admissions, Nora was at Resolute Hospital in New Braunfels, Texas.
Unfortunately, on 07/19/2022, the same initial symptoms occurred again, and Nora was taken to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Again, Nora's blood pressure dropped dangerously low, and she was placed in ICU. During this time, Nora also had to have dialysis and several tests to try to find the cause of the issues she had been continuously having. During this time, both Nora and Chris tested positive for COVID, so Chris had to quarantine in a hotel while their children went to stay with their maternal grandmother. After two weeks in ICU, Nora was finally diagnosed with Capillary Leak Syndrome, a rare medical condition that only has 250 active cases in the world. Nora was released with several new medications, a treatment plan that includes IVIG infusions and other necessary treatments.
Nora is a substitute teacher while Chris is a musician and unfortunately, during this time, they were not able to work and were both without paychecks for the last two months. Nora will now require IVIG infusions once a month for the rest of her life, along with several new prescriptions and specialty treatments. In addition to all their new medical bills, the Compton family also has to deal with mounting bills related to the cost of living, hotel stays, and expenses related to providing for their two young children and their multiple hospital stays.
This Go Fund Me was started as a way to help them recover from the catastrophic events that have changed their family's lives forever. We are hoping that any money raised helps alleviate any additional stress this family already has to endure. Please know that any donation given will be used to help this amazing family recover from this financial blow. For those that know Nora and Chris, you know how amazing they are and how they will help anyone who needs help, so now it's our turn to help them.
