My name is Lucas Christensen and I am in IT for Lifewave. Most of you may have not known, but my wife, Hailey Christensen, was pregnant. While very excited for our future family, the pregnancy has been very rough for a long time. At 9 weeks pregnant, while I was in California for work, Hailey was driving and got hit by an uninsured driver on their learners permit because they ran a red light. She went to the ER and everything ended up being okay. At 13 weeks, she had a hemorrhage that luckily ended up being nothing more than that. At 20 weeks, we went and got an Ultrasound (they call it the “anatomy scan”), to make sure everything was developing good. While the Ultrasound specialist cannot diagnose, they noticed major abnormalities in the brain. Because of this, we went to a Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor to see exactly what was going on. By our surprise and heartbreak, our baby boy had a severe case of Hydrocephalus (too much spinal fluid in his brain). Our hearts have been broken ever since but we prayed and kept hope throughout the holidays, had a gender reveal and baby shower to keep things “normal”. At the beginning of December, because my wife’s work did not want to work/accolade Hailey because of our situation, they let her go. If things weren’t bad enough, now we went down to one income throughout everything, which devastated my wife since she had been there over 4 years. Fast forward to now, at the beginning of February 2025, my wife got an MRI for baby to see what was truly going on. We also went and saw roughly 5 different types of specialist, ranging from a baby neurologist, multiple Maternal Fetal Medicine doctors, and more. These specialists now confirmed it was a case of AVID (asymmetric ventriculomegaly, interhemispheric cyst, and dysgenesis of the corpus callosum) which is a much more rare case and subsection of hydrocephalus. The doctors needed to preform a draining of the fluid in order for my wife to give birth naturally as the fluid buildup was too much for a natural birth (his head was too big) and without C-Section. She was induced starting February 19th, 2025. In labor, she reached levels of Pitocin no one has ever seen, ~46 hours straight of labor, and 8 consecutive hours of pushing later and our baby boy, Larry John Christensen, was born. We knew the outcome of his birth, but we luckily got to spend about two with our baby boy before he went back to God. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to read all of this, and we appreciate anything you can do to help us in this time of heartbreak and sorrow.
