Thursday evening an unexpected event has happened at our mother's house.
As you can see from the photo, the apartment caught on fire due to an accidental incident. The fire burned half the kitchen, causing a lot of things that my mother owned to be either destroyed or permanently ruined.
The city and the landlord had put restrictions on our mother that she cannot enter the house until things are repaired. Because of this, she is not able to grab the important things that she needs from her home.
She was living in the home with my little brother and two younger sisters that she feeds, bathes, and takes care of 24/7. My mom, my brother, and my little sister were left with no clothes, toys, and food after the fire. The lack of resources that was given to her has our mother stressed and concerned for the future. We are doing the best we can at the moment to restore some of the things my mom had lost.
She's currently getting support from the community for temporary housing and is in contact with Red Cross but even with the support that she has, there's a lot of things that were in the house that she cannot get back.
With the repairs going on, she is still in limbo on whether or not she will be able to enter her home. The landlord has not given an answer on how long the repairs are going to be or if there will be any type of compensation for the things that have been damaged.
Our brother was trapped in the room during the fire and is now mentally struggling to heal from this traumatic event. We are blessed and happy that he escaped the fire okay but we are worried about his mental health and what this fire will do to him long term. So, we are keeping a close eye on him and making sure that we support him.
