Support the Chassen Family's Kosher Guest House

.How do you do:)) We are the Chassen family of Ishikawa, Japan. As you can see, we are Orthodox Jews. This means we are outliers in a country where foreigners are already not considered part of mainstream society.

My wife Judy and I have decided to start a Jewish/Kosher tourist service and guest house. This is not as strange as it might seem, at first. Japan happens to be one of the premier tourist destinations for Jews from around the world. It is THE safest country you could imagine. There is virtually no street crime and no issues with Anti-Semitism. Wear your Kippah or your Shtreimel…no problem. Kashrus is the main limiting factor for an observant Jew. Of course, there are Kosher options but they do not include any Japanese food. The standard Kosher menus consist of Israeli style salads and chicken cutlets, AKA schnitzel. I love these but you just flew 15 hours. Try a bit of real Japanese Cuisine. Judy(Yehudis Chaya) happens to be a terrific Japanese cook. She owned and operated a Japanese bar and grill for almost 15 years. Now, she is set on introducing her specialties to our visitors.

On top of that, we happen to be advantageously located 15 minutes from the Japan Sea and the freshest fish you have ever eaten. Outside our house are countless farmers (organic too) who grow our amazing local produce, including the rice. I can watch my neighbor grow their rice from seedling to final harvest and right into our kitchen. The combination is unbeatable…unless you hate fresh vegetables and fish! This location is not only great for food but the sightseeing and activities are limitless. Let me take you for that tour you have always wanted!

In addition, Judy and I live in a 140-year-old house in the classical Japanese style. Visitors come from all over Japan to see this place.

Here is what we need, we are trying to raise enough capital to renovate and furnish the house to accommodate at least 10 to 20 visitors and build and equip a professional kitchen for Judy to work her magic. This is only phase 1 but it will have to do for now. What do you think?

*Well we started this a few weeks ago and I think we did pretty good. We thank all the donors, large and not as large:)) Some folks even donated in person. We do however need to get a bit, i.e. a lot more in order to get started on the kitchen. This is critical to the project. We need to pour a concrete slab, not too big, and then install the water and electric, lease the necessary equipment( Stove, sinks, refrigerator and freezer and then we can be open for that facet of the “business”.
