Please support Cal Poly Humboldt students who, this past spring, bravely helped lead a growing global movement in solidarity with Palestine!

BACKGROUND

Right now, many of these students are experiencing significant hardships following a series of events that began on their campus on April 22, 2024 with a peaceful protest at Siemens Hall. University administrators called in law enforcement, who confronted the protestors and used violence to try to eject them from campus, resulting in injuries among students and faculty. The University’s President further escalated the situation.

In response, Cal Poly Humboldt faculty overwhelmingly voted no confidence in the President and his chief of staff, citing mishandling of the situation and endangerment of students. Starting April 26, some students received suspension letters. Despite this, protests continued until April 30, when 300 police in riot gear raided the quad, arresting 31 students, faculty, and community members, including alumni. All arrested protestors have since been released on bail and are awaiting arraignment and future legal proceedings. In addition, some students have been arrested and charged for such things as “trespassing” for walking on campus to the cafeteria during the university’s “hard closure” campus lock-down. Currently, 45 students and a faculty member are suspended (down from an initial 70). Many affected students have lost their campus jobs, leading to food, housing, and health insecurity. Additionally, the traumatic events and uncertainty about their future have caused significant mental hardship.

Despite these challenges, the community has rallied in support. This fundraiser led by the CFA Palestine, Arab, and Muslim (PAM) Caucus will help students navigate this difficult period by providing much-needed hardship funds to them. Money is being collected by PAM Officers to distribute directly to those who need it. Thank you for your generous donations!
