Simon is hosting this go fund me page to assist with cost of living shortages due to emergency
cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Simon had been suffering with loss of appetite and stomach pains when eating since easter 2026.
With further investigation he was on the pathway to a diagnosis of Crohns. This came to a head
when he was taken unwell and attended West Suffolk Hospital A&E on 25th September where a
routine CT Scan revealed that it was not Crohns, but a rare Abdominal Cancer called
Pseudomyxoma Peritonei.
Pseudomyxoma is diagnosed in roughly 1 to 4 people per million and only treated in one
specialist hospital in the UK, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital. This meant West Suffolk
were not able to carry out any treatment. After his case was reviewed the team at BNHH agreed
to take him on and was transferred a week after diagnosis. Once there he had a 15 hour operation
to remove the cancer, fix the bowel issue and get Simon back to health. Simon relapsed after 12
days and had to go back in for further surgery. Simon is currently recovering after a second
operation. He will also need to undergo a third surgery in the coming weeks when fitter.
Simon is a PGA Golf Professional at Bury St Edmunds Golf club and since the A&E visit has been
unable to coach, which is the main source of the families income. The recovery process will be
long and he currently doesn’t know what that time frame will be or when he will be able to return
to work or coaching.
Simon has a wife and two boys and the loss of earnings will impact on day to day living in the
future until he is back to full fitness. The PGA have a Care fund he is able to apply for but currently
don’t know how this will support financially. Whilst Simon is being treated he is being supported
by his wife, Gina, who is also in Basingstoke. Both of them are away from their children who are being
looked after by family members.
Any funds raised through this page will go towards helping the family take the financial strain and
concentrate on Simons recovery where ever that may be in the coming months ahead. Helping
towards the day to day cost of living, utilities, the boys sports clubs, fuel for Gina to travel home
to support the children where possible and cover the cost of accommodation when the children
visit.
Any remaining funds following recovery will be donated to the unit looking after Simon for
anything they might need or for further research.
