Support the BriBri - Give, Act, Share!

Donation protected

A friend in Costa Rica has recently reached out for support to provide school supplies and gifts to 60 children, and support a women-led initiative.

Our friend is a member of a BriBri clan in Costa Rica. This clan is one of many Indigenous communities currently trying to navigate long and complicated legal processes to reclaim their land. Violence between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities has worsened due to inadequate government support, and many have lost jobs due to being labelled as the “other”. It is no surprise that this situation has worsened with the realities of COVID-19. Communities like the BriBri are fighting to reclaim their land in an effort to conserve their way of life and create a stable future for their children. While families continue to navigate the long and costly legal processes, they are asking for support to provide their children with school supplies and items beyond basic necessities.

When asked, the children said they would love to receive toys and clothes, but they also realize their need for books and school supplies. With your donation, we can gift not only books but also the gift of play (toys, clothes, shoes) to children who have never received gifts during the holidays.

If we are able to fundraise $3,000 for the children, additional funds will support a BriBri women-led initiative to create and sell reusable cloth sanitary pads. This project aims to reduce environmental impact and bring social change in the lives of those involved. Currently, funds are required to purchase sewing machines, fabric, and permits.

Here’s how you can support:

1. Give: Click the donate button!
Please know that no amount is too small and your generosity speaks volumes to us.

2. Act: sign our petition to urge the government of Costa Rica to honour Indigenous land rights and protect communities from violence.

3. Share: If you’re unable to donate, please share this fundraising page with your family and friends.

We are positive that we can come together as a community to reach our goal of raising $5,000 ($3,000 for children and $2,000 for the women-led initiative).

Thank you in advance for your support!
