Help the Boda Family Through an Unimaginable Medical Journey
Hello, my name is Jamie Groshek, and I am reaching out on behalf of the Boda family during an incredibly difficult and uncertain time.

Over the past year, Shelley’s health has taken a devastating and unexpected turn. Last June, she developed severe wounds on her legs. After seeking medical care, doctors discovered there was no blood flow to her left leg. She underwent a major vascular surgery to reroute blood flow from her right leg to her left. While the surgery itself was successful, her wounds remained extensive, covering most of her left leg. She later endured additional procedures, including wound debridement and a skin graft.

Since that time, Shelley has not been able to return home and has been in and out of medical and nursing facilities, fighting every day to heal and regain strength.

Just as things seemed to be stabilizing, Shelley faced another sudden setback. One day, her right toes began turning purple. Doctors soon discovered that blood flow in her right leg had stopped as well. In November, she underwent the heartbreaking amputation of her right leg.

Through it all, Shelley has shown incredible strength and determination, doing everything she can to fight for her health. But this week brought another devastating blow. After experiencing severe pain, she was rushed to the ER, where scans revealed multiple blood clots and blockages beginning at her aorta and extending into both legs—cutting off blood flow entirely.

Shelley has now been faced with two incredibly difficult options: undergo another major surgery involving higher amputations on both legs, with no guarantee of healing, or begin palliative/hospice care. With courage and love for her family guiding her, Shelley has chosen to move forward with surgery. Her greatest wish is simple—to spend whatever time she has left surrounded by the people she loves most, especially her grandchildren.

Alongside the emotional toll, the financial burden has become overwhelming. After continuously being denied by Medicaid for coverage for Shelley, the family recently received a bill of $66,000 from the nursing facility where she has been staying. Her daughter, Rachael, has taken on the responsibility of attending medical appointments, advocating for her mom, and helping make critical decisions. This, along with taking care of her own family and the stresses that go with that, has deeply impacted her mental health, and she has had to take two months off work without pay.

After Shelley’s upcoming surgery, the family’s hope is to finally bring her home—where she can be comfortable, surrounded by love, and no longer feel alone in a facility.

We are asking for support to help ease the financial strain of medical bills, home care, and lost income during this time. Any donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward helping the Boda family focus on what truly matters—being together.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page. Your support, prayers, and kindness mean more than words can express.

Thank you for taking the time to read Shelley’s story.
With gratitude,
Jamie
