Hurricane Melissa has devastated parts of Jamaica, and our family in Montego Bay were among those hit the hardest. My sister & brother-in-law and their two children are all okay, thankfully. They experienced powerful winds and rains tearing through their neighborhood, damaging their home and leaving them needing to make several repairs to make it a safe living environment. They lost their solar panels and had roof damage, which then caused leaks into their kitchen and living areas. The gully near their home, which is meant to drain off water during storms, overflowed and nearly reached the top of the retaining wall that protects their home, so they need to rebuild that even higher. They have been without power and water since the storm hit. The kids schools are closed until further notice and both parents are waiting to find out when they can return to work.
