My name is Kevin Watkins, and I am raising funds to further develop the Battle Buddy Project through Libertas Mobile.

I work at a computer lab in Downtown Austin on East 6th Street, where I am actively involved in developing mesh networks and privacy-focused technology solutions. I was driven to create the Battle Buddy after witnessing the poor and misleading media reporting surrounding a mass shooting in Downtown Austin last month. That experience made it clear to me that everyday people need better tools to stay informed, connected, and safe — without having to sacrifice their privacy.

The Battle Buddy Project is a privacy-first mobile platform built on a hardened, de-Googled system designed for real people living in the real world. It gives Austin residents and people everywhere the ability to communicate, navigate, and operate digitally without feeding the surveillance machine. With encrypted communications, a privacy-first operating system, and no background data harvesting, the Battle Buddy puts control back in the hands of the user.
