Support the Barreto Family's Loss

I'm raising funds for The Barreto Family, who suddenly lost Adan Mauricio Barreto, their beloved father and husband on the night of Wednesday, February 19th.

I know the Barreto family through Candida, my friend and colleague of many years. I only had the pleasure of meeting her dad once, but I know from conversations with her that he was an incredibly hard-working man, working long hours to support his family and rarely taking a day off. He loved his children very much, enjoyed their company and loved having them close by. I will never forget visiting the Barreto home to drop off a cat that Salma, the youngest child of 3, adopted– and opening the front door to a bird cage in the living room. Don Barreto was an animal-lover, always tending to the pets of family friends when they went away on vacation, and welcoming any furry (or feathered) friend that came to his door.

The Barreto family runs a family-deli in Sunset Park called B. Landi. We are hoping that these funds can cover memorial services, health bills, as well as support the family while their main source of income is in flux. His presence will be dearly missed by family, friends and deli regulars.

Conozco a la familia Barreto a través de Candida, mi amiga y colega de muchos años. Solo tuve el placer de conocer a su padre una vez, pero sé por las conversaciones que tuve con ella que era un hombre increíblemente trabajador, que trabajaba muchas horas para mantener a su familia y rara vez se tomaba un día libre. Amaba mucho a sus hijos, disfrutaba de su compañía y le encantaba tenerlos cerca. Nunca olvidaré la visita a la casa de los Barreto para dejar un gato que Salma, la hija menor de 3, adoptó: abrí la puerta de entrada a una jaula de pájaros en la sala de estar! Don Barreto era un amante de los animales, siempre cuidaba a las mascotas de los amigos y familia cuando se iban de vacaciones y daba la bienvenida a cualquier amigo peludo (o emplumado) que llegaba a su puerta.

La familia Barreto tiene una tienda familiar en Sunset Park llamada B. Landi. Esperamos que estos fondos puedan cubrir los servicios conmemorativos, las facturas de salud y apoyar a la familia mientras su principal fuente de ingresos cambia. Su familia, amigos y clientes habituales del deli extrañarán profundamente su presencia.
