In August 2022, due to worsening health issues Mike Ascough became unable to work. For several years he has dealt with leg, back and hip pain making it difficult for him to even walk at times. In addition to his primary care doctor, he has been to 3 neurologists, a rheumatologist, multiple orthopedists and an infectious disease doctor. He has suffered through CT scans, MRI's, cortisone shots and physical therapy as far away as Cleveland Clinic. After nearly two years of visiting multiple doctors, Mike has been diagnosed with severely damaged hips. On Friday, March 1st Mike was scheduled to have an out-patient procedure at Crouse hospital to "clean up" his hip which entailed the removal of a bone spur, repairing labral tears and correcting hip dysplasia. This surgery was much more extensive than anticipated. When coming out of anesthesia Mike experienced difficulty breathing and chest pain. Doctors performed tests to discover that he had fluid in his lungs and an enlarged heart. For obvious reasons, Mike was admitted to the hospital. He will need a minimum of one more hip surgery with the possibility of double hip replacements. As a result of the enlarged heart he now has to follow up with a cardiologist. Mike's short term disability ended in February 2023 and he was recently denied long term disability for the second time. With only one income for a family of four, the financial burden is growing. As cousins of Mike and Hayley, Tricia and I appreciate any assistance you are willing to give.
