What Happened:

On June 15th, the Alexander family's home was struck by a hail of gunfire in the early hours of the morning. This terrifying event resulted in thousands of dollars of physical damage to the house and belongings, and emotional damage from the violent intrusion into their lives, along with the horrifying thoughts of what could have happened. Two of the children were even showered with broken glass while they slept. In the aftermath of this trauma, the family took appropriate steps, such as filing police reports, seeking therapy, and spending time together to regain their composure. At the time, it was assumed to be a random act of violence, a drive-by shooting with their home simply being collateral damage.

However, on July 5th, disaster struck again. With Rick and Jennifer and the younger children out of town for the holiday, but the two oldest children at home for work, the house was targeted once more. At approximately 2 am, the home was struck by another barrage of bullets, causing much more serious damage both inside and out. This time, it was evident that the shooters were in the yard, shooting at/into the house. Due to ongoing investigations, some details are omitted for the family's protection. However, please trust that the damages are severe, and it is unsafe for them to remain in their home.

The Impact:

The emotional shock from this second attack is monumental. The deliberate nature of the shooting and the specific targeting of their home have left the family feeling unsafe and uncertain about their future. Until investigations are complete, it is not prudent for the family to remain in one place or disclose their location. The entire family may require continuous therapeutic support to heal from these traumatic events.
The damage to the house is significant. There are multiple repairs to be made. Not all of this will be covered by insurance.

Why We Need Your Help:

Imminent expenses:
•Housing and Safety: The family needs to stay out of their home for safety reasons, leading to unexpected and significant expenses for temporary shelter. As a family of six, they require accommodations with sufficient space and amenities, such as a rental with a kitchen, which is more cost-effective than multiple hotel rooms and eating out.
•Repairs and Relocation: The cost of repairing the extensive damage to their home goes beyond what insurance will cover. If they need to relocate permanently, their living expenses will increase exponentially.
•Lost Wages: Income loss as family members need to take time off work to deal with the situation and recover.
•Medical Expenses: Co-pays for therapy. Medical costs- one child was healing from significant surgery when the first shooting occurred, and Rick is dealing with kidney stones currently and has had to make an ER visit since the second shooting.
•Transportation Costs: Expenses for increased travel to and from temporary housing, increased commutes to work, and other necessary travel.
•Legal Fees: Potential Costs associated with legal advice or representation to navigate the aftermath of the incidents.

Possible future expenses:

•Relocation Assistance: Expenses related to finding and moving to a new, safe residence, including deposits, moving services, and setup costs.
•Increased Security Measures: Expenses for installing security systems or cameras.
•Household Essentials: Replacing damaged personal items and household essentials that were affected by the incidents or unexpected essentials needed amid the transition period between homes.
•Educational Support: Potential Costs for tutoring or special programs to support the children's education if they are affected by the trauma.

The Alexanders are a hardworking and frugal family who have always served and given to their community. Now, they need our support.
