As many of you know, Matt and I started volunteering back in 2016, helping Syrian refugee families settle into their new homes in Pittsburgh. One of those families, the Al Younes, have two adult daughters (with their own families) who have been living in a refugee camp in Jordan. We are working with Welcome Corps to get the entire family reunited here in Pittsburgh. Through sponsorship with this organization, the Al Younes’ daughter Nada, along with her husband and their 5 children, arrived in Pittsburgh on September 18th.
Since 2016, we have watched the Al Younes family flourish and thrive here in Pittsburgh, learning English, going to college, learning to drive, buying a house, and becoming official US citizens. We are so happy that they are now reunited with their oldest daughter and her family, and that they will get to see their grandchildren grow up with opportunities they never thought possible.
Nada and her family are living with the Al Younes in their small house in Carnegie until they can get on their feet, find jobs, and make a new life for themselves. When we met them when they first arrived, Nada’s husband talked about how grateful he was that he could build this new life for his children. Nada talked about how this all still feels like a dream, and they can’t believe they are really here.
We are raising funds for them through this campaign to help them with their basic needs while they start to build this new life of endless opportunities. They have the support of their extended family here in Pittsburgh, but they are coming from a refugee camp where they lived for more than 10 years. Thank you for considering donating to this family. The Al Younes have been an important part of our lives. They have watched us grow from a newlywed couple to a family of four and they have shown us nothing but love and gratitude the entire time we have known them.
xoxo
