Earlier this month, a heartbreaking tragedy struck the Ahmed family in Islamabad, Pakistan. Shabeer Ahmed (age 48) died by suicide, taking with him his 9-year-old son, Abdullah, and severely injuring his 10-year-old son, Abdurrehman. This unimaginable event has left a mother and four surviving children devastated, displaced, and in urgent need of support.

Prior to his death, Shabeer was struggling under the crushing weight of debt. In a desperate act, he ended his life by stepping in front of a moving train with his two youngest sons. While Abdullah passed away on the scene, Abdurrehman miraculously survived, though he faces a long road of physical and emotional recovery.

The surviving family members (as seen in the above picture) include:

• Fawzia (45), a grieving mother now left to support her children alone

• Afzal (17) and Ali (16), two teenage sons trying to stay strong while navigating this trauma

• Taiyaba (11), the only daughter

• Abdurrehman (10), the surviving son who is currently recovering from severe injuries.

The family also lost their home and possessions in an attempt to repay Shabeer’s debts. They are currently living temporarily with a kind community member, but this is only for the short-term grieving (iddah) period. They have nowhere permanent to go.

We are raising funds to:

• Obtain secure, safe, and stable housing for the family

• Provide medical care and support for Abdurrehman

• Help Afzal and Ali find employment or skill-building opportunities to support their mother and siblings

• Ensure basic living expenses are covered as they rebuild their lives.
