This June, Summer Music in City Churches (SMiCC) returns to the Square Mile for the eighth time.

SMiCC was conceived in 2018 as a festival of concerts and associated events in historic churches in the City of London over ten days in June. It aims to provide a cultural focus within the City during the summer, partly filling the gap left by the demise of the old City of London Festival in 2016 after some 50 years. The festival is designed to provide a high quality experience of live music for people working in, living in and visiting the City, and to throw a spotlight on the historic City churches involved.

Concerts provide a range of musical experiences which can be enjoyed variously by people of all ages and from all walks of life, and are presented at lunchtimes and during the evenings to appeal both to workers taking a break during or after a busy day and to visitors making a special journey into the City.

Content is varied, featuring solo artists, orchestras, ensembles, and choirs performing music from classical and jazz genres and more. We engage professional musicians, and make a point of including both established performers and young artists making a promising start in their musical careers.

We aim to maximise the festival’s appeal to a potential ticket-buying public by careful programming on an accessible theme. This year's theme is Around the World, bringing nine days full of music inspired by landscapes and traditions of town and country, at home and abroad, to the Square Mile.

We deliberately pitch our ticket prices at an affordable level so that the performances of our outstanding musicians can be enjoyed by anyone.
Box office receipts can never cover the costs of staging these concerts and the festival is therefore dependent on the generosity of sponsors and donors. The organisers are determined to keep the festival viable for future years and are therefore appealing for donations.
