Help Us Keep the Roxbury Concert Series Going
For the past four years, I’ve had the joy of building something that has become deeply meaningful to me and to our community: the Roxbury Concert Series.
What began as a simple idea has grown into a place where exceptional live music meets the heart of Roxbury. Five times a year, we gather at the Shaw-Roxbury Branch of the Boston Public Library to share wonderful music with our neighbors, families, students, and friends.
Some of my favorite moments have been watching audiences discover music they might never otherwise encounter.
I’ll never forget when Biribá Union filled the room with their electrifying blend of hip-hop, Brazilian rhythms, and jazz. Children danced, elders smiled, and neighbors connected. And when the Balourdet Quartet performed Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence, the entire room seemed to hold its breath.
Those moments are why I love doing this.
As we prepare for our fifth season, we are facing a significant funding gap. One of the funders who has helped support the Roxbury Concert Series is no longer able to contribute this year. We are now turning to our community to help us raise $6,000 and keep the series moving forward.
The concerts will continue to be free to the public. That has always been an important part of bringing the series to the library and making these experiences accessible to everyone.
But putting on a concert takes more than putting chairs in a room. We need to pay the wonderful musicians who perform for us, cover production and equipment expenses, provide hospitality for our artists and audiences, and take care of the many small details that make each concert possible.
Your support helps us keep doing all of that.
A gift of $25, $50, $100, $500, or any amount you are comfortable giving can make a real difference. And if you are able to become a monthly donor, even a small recurring contribution gives us steady support as we plan each season.
Most importantly, this is a community project. The Roxbury Concert Series exists because people believe that great music belongs in Roxbury and that our neighborhoods deserve opportunities to gather, experience something beautiful, and connect with one another.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has attended a concert, brought a friend, donated, volunteered, shared a post, or simply told someone about the series.
As we enter our fifth season, we’re asking you to help us keep it going.
If the Roxbury Concert Series has brought you joy, introduced you to an artist you loved, given you a memorable afternoon, or helped you feel a little more connected to your community, please consider making a contribution.
And if you can’t donate right now, sharing this campaign with a friend or neighbor is also a wonderful way to help.
Thank you for being part of the Roxbury Concert Series and for helping us continue to bring music, beauty, and community to Roxbury.
