Support Prospect Farm's 2021 Grow Season

Tax deductible
A year ago, we at Prospect Farm, like many organizations, had to deal with numerous pandemic-related challenges that we were not ready for. We needed to support the increase in demand for composting since the City stopped their curbside food scrap collection, increase our food production, and fortify our infrastructure to offer Prospect Farm as a social outdoor space for the neighborhood. Our partnership with Big Reuse greatly increased our capacity to divert our neighborhood’s food scraps from landfills by picking up and composting all we couldn’t handle on our own. However, Prospect Farm still has a lot of work to do. During this growing season we have aspirations to improve our role as a community asset through organic food production, intentionally growing heirloom plants for seed saving and sharing with our community, rainwater harvesting, and of course composting.

NYC Compost Program Scrapped After Covid Fueled Budget Cuts

In order to accomplish our goals this growing season, we are asking for community support in the form of donations in order to fund our many projects. With your support we can repair and build new growing beds in richer and healthier soil, build a higher capacity rainwater harvesting system, repair and build new composting bins, build retaining walls (gabions) so that we can utilize more of our space, and build a patio area so we can invite the community in for free workshops and social gatherings.

Healthy Food, Soil, and Community

Prospect Farm is a non-profit cooperative project in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn, that is working together to grow food in a formerly vacant lot. Our mission is to create a garden that can serve our community. Prospect Farm is powered by our volunteer members who come together to grow produce, compost, and create connections with neighbors and the surrounding community.

Materials we’d like to buy:

* Lumber for raised beds and compost bins
* Food choppers for processing compost
* Compost Thermometer
* Masonry stones for retaining walls (gabions) and a walkway
* Lumber and tools for rainwater harvesting system
* Soil amendment materials (coconut coir, fungi, for example)
* Small fencing for sidewalk flower beds
* Funds for community events

We can meet our goal if:
100 people donate $30
200 people donate $15
