I am hoping to raise funds for my sweet friend, Teshia D., in Jamaica. We have known her for several years as a wonderful attendant at the resort we go to every year.

Since Katrina changed our lives in many ways, this hits very close to home….

Teshia and her two sons have lost EVERYTHING they own. EVERYTHING. No home, no furniture, no dishes, no clothes…EVERYTHING!

She managed to finally contact me today (Nov. 1) after finding a WiFi spot set up by the government and someone charging her phone for a few minutes.

This message came through first, which she tried to send during the storm…

“My roof is gone completely and we’re sitting outside under a staircase, me n my boys, it’s pouring down and the wind, I’ve never seen anything like this before. Am so scared, we’re scared.”

So, she sent this message during the storm, but it did not reach me until today. After I got this message, I reached out and actually got a few messages and voice texts through. We even had a brief WhatsApp call.

Everyone wants to help, but we all send money to different organizations, hoping to help all. This effort is to help someone Doug and I know personally. We have seen her every year for several years. She seeks us out when we arrive and hugs abound.

In case you don’t know, the median income in Jamaica is $6,000/year. Yes, you read that correctly….$6,000 a year!

If everyone who sees this donates $5, we can change Teshia’s life in great ways.
