Dear friends, family, and customers –
I'm writing to you on behalf of my dad, Terry Smith, who needs our support as he faces his battle with Lung Cancer.
Earlier this year, he went to the emergency room for some intense shoulder pain and breathing problems he'd been experiencing. After numerous tests and scans, they found a large mass in his lung. Soon after, he was admitted to the hospital to be put on oxygen and observed for further testing, eventually leading to a biopsy of the mass. In spite of our hopes, it was confirmed to be a rare and aggressive form of Lung Cancer. Basaloid Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
Since the diagnosis, there have been a number of appointments with his Pulmonology, Oncology, and Cardiology teams. As of April 4, 2025, we're awaiting a PET scan to determine the cancer's staging and eventual treatment plan options.
If you're reading this, chances are that you've been on the receiving end of my dad's friendship, or work services, or some version of his unwavering ability to be helpful to someone however he can. I've spent my whole life witnessing him jump at any chance to use his endless amounts of talent and knowledge to help anyone he meets. If you know him, you can most likely recall a time that he's helped you.
While he's been trying his best to continue working as normal, his ability to do the laborious aspects of running his business has scaled back significantly while he manages his pain and awaits an official treatment plan. The cancer is an unimaginable pain, and not being able to work is a whole other kind of pain for him and his household.
Graph-Tech being the main source of income in my parent's home, they're now needing assistance in covering the costs of living as they walk through this difficult time. We would greatly appreciate any way you could help our family.
