I have worked at our church with Terry for several years, so I am creating this GoFundMe account for him and his family.
On behalf of the Shubeck family, Terry and Camille would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and condolences through visits, calls, text messages, etc., following Terry’s cancer operation, which required amputating his left arm and shoulder.
For those that know Terry, he is a kind, generous, loving man who served his country in the military and most recently worked at John Knox Presbyterian Church in North Olmsted, Ohio, where he was the Building Manager. He did an excellent job (before having to retire due to the discovery of his cancer tumor) taking care of the very large, but aging building and helped lead a major cleanup and renovation during the COVID outbreak. He worked hard to enable the church to get its first electronic sign to announce many activities which benefit the whole community! Camille, the love of his life and a wonderful, loving wife, has long been suffering with a rare nerve disease causing whole-body pain that requires expensive, ongoing drug treatments to enable her to bear the pain. Her disease is nicknamed the “suicide disease” because of the severity of the pain. She is a wonderful, generous, sweet lady who used to own and operate a hair salon but had to give it up due to her illness. She works when she can “pet-sitting” for people in their homes while they are on vacation. She and Terry have a daughter and young grandson who live with them and rely on them for room and board at their home in North Olmsted.
The Shubecks are now struggling to cope with Terry’s amputation, and Terry is experiencing terrible “phantom pain” in the nerves from his missing arm. He is also trying to relearn how to do everyday chores with only one arm/hand, which requires special tools at times for such things as just opening a can, etc. The week Terry arrived home from the hospital, the city sent a notice to him that said their detached garage needs major repair – to the extent that it needs to be torn down and rebuilt. Terry, who was a hard worker and very handy when he was well, is now struggling to deal with this – physically, emotionally, and financially. The family is already having trouble putting food on the table and paying the mortgage, utilities, insurance, etc., without having this burden added to the list. The city has given them an extension (from 30 days) to enable them to rebuild the garage by July 2025.
It is hard for Terry and Camille to ask for help since Terry has been a great provider his whole life and Camille has been a hard worker too. They both always give selflessly to family and friends alike. Asking for help is never easy. Accepting help and needing help for a reason like this is even harder. Funds from this will go directly to helping the family navigate these uncertain financial times and help with house repairs that are beyond their abilities. From the bottom of our hearts on behalf of the Shubeck Family, thank you.
