Over Spring Break, I noticed several unsettling signs that led me to get a diagnostic mammogram. Biopsies last week confirmed I have at least three cancer anomalies in my left breast. I met with the surgeon today and now the work begins of MRIs, CT scans, oncologists, genetics screening, cardiologist consults, and plastic surgeon consultations. The pace of everything is overwhelming, but I am determined to face this head-on.

I'm being told all of the doctor's visits need to happen quickly and possible surgery before this school year even ends. Coworkers are willing to donate sick days to help during this time, but all of these specialists are expensive, especially since I downgraded my state employees health insurance this year because of the tripling of the premiums that would be charged with my previous plan. Help to pay for medical bills is desperately needed, and the financial stress adds to an already difficult situation.

I had hoped that winning America's favorite teacher would help cover the expenses, but it looks like I will be eliminated after this round in the next few days.
