Hello there, I'm Terinney, a 4th year medical student at Howard University College of Medicine and soon to be the first doctor in my family. I am currently taking a research year and it has always been my dream to become a physician, more specifically, an OB/GYN who serves Black and Brown communities. Well, I've almost reached my goal of graduating medical school, but before I do it has always been a dream of mine to go abroad on a medical mission trip and birth babies IN SPANISH! (yes, in Spanish!)

Being the Texan native that I am, I plan to return home to work in a community where the Spanish language is a vital part of providing culturally competent care. I am currently at at intermediate-advanced level in Spanish and believe that I can fully grasp medical Spanish if given the opportunity to live, breath, and more importantly, provide care to underserved women and deliver babies in Spanish! I have found a program working with Mayan Midwives in Guatemala that will allow me to do just that, but the fee is quite expensive at $2,000 for 4 weeks, so I decide to make a GoFundMe to see if my community and loved ones would help me see this dream through. I plan to move to Guatemala for the month of June for the volunteering program, which also happens to be right after my 30th Birthday! I am also working to fund this volunteering opportunity, but you know what they say-- a closed mouth doesn't get fed so here I am expressing the desires of my heart. As a pastor would say, I hope the spirit moves you to help me help others, and see a personal dream through.
