Support Teresa's Recovery and Return to Teaching

On April 19th, Teresa Brooke faced a life-threatening emergency when blood clots formed in her left leg, putting her at risk of amputation. During surgery, a wave of blood clots spread throughout her body, including her heart and brain. This caused Teresa to suffer a stroke in the right side of her brain, a minor heart attack, and atrial fibrillation. ICU doctors worked tirelessly to stabilize her with a delicate balance of medications, but the extent of the damage to her brain and tissues was uncertain.

After two harrowing weeks in the ICU, Teresa began to show signs of responsiveness. The stroke left her without motor function on her left side. However, with another two weeks of intensive therapy, she has made remarkable progress, regaining some motor function and even taking steps with a walker! When Teresa was admitted, she was between jobs as a preschool teacher and had a lapse in medical coverage. While we are hopeful that most of her emergency medical bills will be covered by state insurance, there are significant limitations to this coverage. We started this GoFundMe to help offset other expenses such as uncovered medical costs, temporary disability support, and general living expenses and bills until Teresa can return to work with her beloved kiddos.
