My name is Zach, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my strong, loving, and resilient mom, Teresa Shannon. She is a mother of five who has spent her entire life putting her children first, working tirelessly to give us the best life possible while always making time for road trips, crafting, and attending our sports and choir events. She’s the heart and soul of our family, always optimistic and playful, no matter the challenges she faces.
In November 2022, our world was turned upside down when my mom, was diagnosed with cervical cancer while I was stationed thousands of miles away in the military. It was one of the hardest moments of my life not being able to be with her. Despite undergoing surgeries, radiation, and now chemotherapy, the cancer has spread to her abdomen, bladder, and chest, and earlier this year, her doctors explained that her cancer is terminal. The doctors estimate my mom would have roughly 6 months to live with no treatment. Since returning home, I’ve made it a priority to be there for her and my siblings, joining her at medical appointments and supporting her through the toughest moments of this journey. Although she is still undergoing treatment to extend her life, the reality of this diagnosis has been devastating, leaving her too exhausted to enjoy the activities she once loved, like going on road trips and cheering us on at our games.
My mom is still the sole provider for our family, even while battling cancer. She faces a $6,000 annual out-of-pocket maximum to meet her medical expenses, on top of the everyday costs of living. Her courage in continuing to work through chemotherapy to support her household has been nothing short of inspiring, but we know she needs to rest and focus on her health. We’re starting this fundraiser to help cover the $6,000 out-of-pocket maximum and give her the peace of mind she deserves during this difficult time. If we reach our goal, any extra donations will go towards living expenses.
Our mom is determined to fight this disease with everything she has, she aims to see her son graduate high school and her 12-year-old daughter’s quinceañera. Your support will not only help us meet the medical costs but will also give my mom the chance to rest, spend quality time with us, and create lasting memories. We are blessed with a supportive extended family, but we need all the help we can get.
If you feel called to donate, we would be immensely grateful. Any amount helps, and if you’re unable to give, sharing her story would mean the world to us. We want to spread Teresa’s story of resilience, supported by family and God. Thank you for taking the time to read and for your consideration.
Let’s help my mom focus on what truly matters—her family and her journey of hope.
