A Message to Our Community
If you know Teresa, you know that music is only part of what she gives to her students. She teaches patience, confidence, discipline, and joy. She has spent decades nurturing young musicians on Maui and creating a community around music that has touched hundreds of families. Teresa moved to Maui in 1986 and has been a pillar of the island’s music community ever since. She has performed professionally for decades, including 25 years with the Hawaiʻi Symphony and as Principal Violist with the Maui Pops Orchestra. She has shared the stage with many incredible musicians, but her greatest legacy may be the thousands of hours she has spent teaching Maui’s keiki.
After suffering a serious arm injury in 2002 that temporarily ended her performing career, Teresa fought her way back through determination and extensive medical treatment. She relearned how to play and ultimately dedicated herself even more deeply to teaching. Since then, she has taught well over a thousand students and founded the Suzuki-Maui School of Talent Education, helping countless children discover their love for music. Many of her former students are now accomplished musicians themselves, some even performing in the Maui Pops Orchestra alongside the community she helped build.
Teresa has given so much of her life to the Maui community. Now she is facing medical challenges and needs support for treatment and living expenses during this time. If Teresa has touched your life, your child’s life, or the music community on Maui in any way, please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser. Every contribution helps. Mahalo for supporting a teacher, mentor, and musician who has given so much to so many.
