Hi Friends, Fam, & Community,

My name is Teraine and I’m a Black, Fat, Queer & Trans, Disabled Care worker, beginner herbalist, aspiring community archivist, and aspiring death doula. I’ve recently been accepted into a virtual End of Life training program and a Wellness Retreat hosted abroad and I’m seeking community support to cover costs for these opportunities.

There’s a disparity in access to death care for Queer, Trans, BIPOC, especially those of us with disabilities and there are very limited opportunities to plan our deaths, prepare our communities, and have the support to transition in ways we may need or desire. My move towards death work is to support in reframing death for my communities and heal our lineages. I aspire to do this work in ways that are intentional and rooted in care, accessibility, liberation, and center the direct needs of Queer & Trans & Disabled BIPOC in Chicago and wherever this work takes me. Being able to participate in an end-of-life program will support me in making this happen.

The wellness retreat would not only aid in my death work aspirations, but would also support my spiritual growth and healing journey, complementing my existing wellness practices. My hope is that this healing retreat would open the door to a type of communal & individual healing that I haven’t been able to access on my own, while also introducing more practices that I can build on for myself and integrate into death work.

The costs for the Death Doula Training plus the Wellness Retreat total to $4,370.

Going with Grace End of Life Training for the Virtual Group Study = $1,870

Healing from Within All Inclusive Wellness Retreat = $2,500

Both opportunities begin at the end of August 2025 and having the ability to cover all or most of the cost by then would make this process a little easier to manage and a little more hopeful.
